The third level extends automated material handling further upstream and downstream of the value stream. As manufacturers increase their level of automation, every step taken by the operator creates greater value.

Automated robots, capable of performing collaborative fixed and mobile tasks, are particularly important in mixed-product manufacturing. The higher the level of automation, the greater the utilization performance, and the more labor saved, making manufacturers more competitive.
