During the production process, no matter how skilled the workers are, they still spend time on non-productive tasks. What is automation? TUBE TRADE FAIR 2024 understands that broadly speaking, there are three different levels. The first layer is machine-based. Research is carried out by lasers, punch presses, press brakes or welding cells.
The task of first-level automation is to maximize the elimination of non-value-added tasks. For example, with a panel bending machine, workers do not change tools and run test parts on the brake but instead activate specialized programs that allow the machine to complete the remaining work. The machine sets itself up, and a mechanical arm moves the blanks between bends. The operator only needs to remove the finished parts and stack them.
The second level includes material handling automation, where robots or conveyors feed the machines and remove and stack the finished products.
The third level extends automated material handling further upstream and downstream of the value stream. As manufacturers increase their level of automation, every step taken by the operator creates greater value.
Automated robots, capable of performing collaborative fixed and mobile tasks, are particularly important in mixed-product manufacturing. The higher the level of automation, the greater the utilization performance, and the more labor saved, making manufacturers more competitive.
The automation process in the tube industry has multiple benefits. Many customers require manufacturers to adjust product production according to their needs. Automation shapes new business models for manufacturers, attracting more customers.
